MYKEL HAWKE is a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran, known for his survival expertise and TV work as host, actor/performer, director, and producer in numerous series and projects, which include: The Discovery Channel's Man, Woman, Wild and One Man Army; The Travel Channel's Lost Survivors; The Outdoor Channel's Elite Tactical Unit. He has starred and appeared in shows that include: ABC's The Bachelor; Netflix's Daybreak with Matthew Broderick; Leonardo DiCaprio's Frontiersmen on The History Channel. He has made several appearances on various network and news shows, including NBC's Rossen Reports as a subject expert. In survival, Hawke has authored several bestselling BOOKS, has been featured and/or interviewed by most of the mainstream survival magazines and several trade publications. He has designed a line of knives and gear and is a member of Green Zone Hero. He holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in psychology for family counseling. He supports many causes, including: Gold Star Teen Adventures, Community Sentinels, Healing the Wounds, Boots on the Ground, and Task Force Dagger, among others.


Hawke is married to Ruth England and has a son; he also has 2 grown sons and several grandchildren. The Hawkes reside in southern Florida.

Retired as a U.S. Special Forces Green Beret Captain (18A), Hawke served 12 years of active duty and 12-plus years in the Reserves and Guard. His last three assignments were with Special Forces Command Latin America, United Nations Special Forces Liason Korea, and U.S. Army Special Forces Command Fort Bragg. Prior to 9/11, he was a Sergeant First Class Senior Enlisted, serving as a Medic (18D), Communicator (18E), Intelligence (18F).


He has served or been a contractor in Afghanistan, Iraq, El Salvador, Colombia, Turkey, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Haiti, Sierra Leone, and Uganda.


9/11: "When September 11 happened, I was living in L.A., still serving in the National Guard. So we watched those assholes fly the second plane into a building and I told my sons, “Hey, as a single father of two boys, I can get a compassionate reassignment and not go to war, or I can go to war because I'm Special Forces.” And they told me, “Dad, go over there and go kick some ass.”
